Beauty Within

I am a true believe in "everything happens for a reason" and today I experienced another great example of how true this is.  God always has a plan.  My mom purchased a book for my eldest called "More Than a Pretty Face" by Christina Mead.  While it was meant for my daughter I was intrigued by the title and began to read it.  Here I am day 2 and page 60.  So much for just reading a blurb. Ha! Anyway, so I'm reading and the more the author shares about her struggle with loving herself and finding herself "pretty enough" I feel her words resonate with my own struggle.  Growing up I always felt fat.  I always had skinny friends.  So I was constantly comparing myself to them.  I was never skinny although I did fit into a size 0 and size 3 for a long period of time in middle school.  I always had a lot of thigh, some booty and boobs since I menstruated at 9 years old.  I look back at pictures now and wonder what in the world was I think...

The family and I had to take an unexpected trip to New Mexico on Labor Day due to my husband's grandmother's passing.  My husband had been able to say his goodbyes in January when they thought that was it but by some miracle she pulled through and lived another 6 months.  I think that that trip helped make this unfortunate news a little easier to bare.  I didn't have to console him, and as selfish as it sounds I'm glad he was OK because I'm not sure how well I would've done at consoling his pain. Let me explain; I have always had a fear of death.  It's strange but I feel as though his grandmother's death help me come to terms with the circle of life.  My maternal grandfather died when I was 3 years old and I have no memory of him.  My paternal grandparents died when I was in middle school and I remember being sad, but I hardly cried.  I didn't get to go to their funerals either.  We held a memorial mass about 6 months later with the family membe...

We had a pretty busy weekend.  The family got together and celebrated by 3rd born's 2nd birthday.  We had tacos, a piñata, candy bar, and a nice big water slide for the kids.  Little did I know the kids would make such a splash. It was nice to have fun and mingle with friends and family after the interested announcement at work on Wednesday. Photo Cred: Emilio Olivas Photography I've always heard the saying, when life gives you lemons make lemonade.   That's a good way to try to explain what's going on at the moment.  My co-workers and I were informed that our branch office would be closing it's doors.  We weren't given a very detailed outline of when and as far as I know at this moment, I should have a few weeks of work left.  However, this was said to me and my co worker and this morning I heard that they were "still keeping her around two more weeks."  I don't know about you, but two weeks doesn't equivocate to a couple of weeks does...

Hello

I've been wanting to start a blog for awhile; I find writing very therapeutic.  But I also recognize that each experience can also be both a teaching experience and a learning experience.  The best way to help others is to share personal struggles, accomplishments and even celebrations.  I don't ever pretend to be a perfect mom.  I am FAR from perfect and have finally come to terms with that.  There are already so many expectations for us parents and it's difficult to meet all of those expectations with grace.  But I find great solace knowing each day I'm trying my best and my family is happy and that is all that matters. I am a mother of 4 young ladies ranging from 16 years old all the way down to 3-1/2 months old.  The largest age gap is between my eldest and 2nd born - 11 years.  The youngest two are only 20 months apart.  Every day I am still learning to adjust to a life with 4 kids.  Every day I am learning to be not only a good m...
